“So…are you going to ask for my number or what?”

I remember the exact moment I knew. We were on our first date and we were at the end when the boy is supposed to ask for the girl’s number and he just. wasn’t. asking. Of course, it was awkward and I hovered just long enough (at least 30 weird, long, drawn-out seconds….when no one is talking, and it’s a first date, that seems like forever) to give him the chance to ask and make me look stupid at the same time. I assumed he didn’t like me, or was really shy, and without thinking (seriously, without thinking), I say, “So….are you going to ask for my number or what?” OMG. Yes, that happened. I said that and immediately wished I could crawled under a rock to hide. To my surprise, though, this wonderfully sweet guy laughed and asked for my phone. He proceeded to plug in his name and number, and when he was done, he asked me out for a second date…but invited my then 18-month-old daughter along, too. ”We could go to the Newport Aquarium…is that something she would like?” he asked very genuinely, and that’s when I knew. My daughter Ava has a great dad who loves her more than life, so I in no way wanted to replace him for her, but when Jason came along, she and I were a packaged deal. She was my little side-kick. I wanted someone who could understand that and had enough love for both me and her.

Ten months after that first date, in a cabin in the mountains, he asked me to marry him (those who have heard the story know I thought he was joking…but that story is for another time. Maybe next year?) A year and ten months after that first date, we got married on the most beautiful day a girl could ask for. Two years and ten months after that first date, Boston came three and a half weeks early and has been making us laugh with his funny little personality ever since. Six years after that first date, I still couldn’t have asked for a better man. This man went to UDF for ice cream at 10:00 at night more times than I can count when I was pregnant with Boston (before I found out I had gestational diabetes ), does the dishes without my asking because he knows it will help me out, works his butt off every day at his job and then comes home and spends time with us, has given me a dream home he is remodeling with his own two hands, supported me a million percent when I had a crazy notion to start my own business (and has been my rock ever since), never fails to tell me I’m beautiful (even when I’m not), and I love him more than words.

Yesterday was our fourth wedding anniversary! Happy anniversary to my best friend…. Jason, you are my lobster <3.

What’s this?? TWO blog posts in one day?! Say whaaaat?!? Yes, yes it is. This is what happens when you gotta leave for vacation in t-minus 3 hours….stuff gets done!! I couldn’t go anywhere without posting a little sneak of Jessica and Cody. I can’t say enough good things about this couple! They are sweet, genuine, and amazingly cute around each other! Cody is a police officer (like my hubs), so Jessica and I bonded over our worry for the men in our lives, while Cody worried about whether or not he was any good at this photo shoot thing. I told him that it’s rare when a dude is totally excited to have pictures done, but those who stick it out for their loves always have great photos to look back on later. Cody was a trooper and much better at it than he realizes! As long as he keeps making Jessica laugh the way she does when he’s around, and by laugh, I mean flash her SUPER gorg smile, my job will be golden Take a peak…

Thanks, Jessica and Cody, I had a blast with you guys! Check back in October to see these two tie the knot!!

Happy birthday, my little love

I didn’t have a chance yesterday to post about my baby boy’s birthday! Boston turned three yesterday and is officially a big boy. We made it official with a new big boy bed (said “goodbye” to a toddler bed, and “hello” to a queen bed), got rid of his high chair, and we are powering through potty training. He’s growing up way too fast…I want to freeze time and memorize his face, smile, laugh, the way he gets excited about everything, how he loves to tell stories, the voices he gives his tractors when he plays with them, and how very much HE loves ME. I always want to say something cheesy on my kid’s birthdays about how much I love them and how proud of them I am, but I say it so much to them, I think they know. So, I’ll say this….Boston is the most funny, carefree, wild, caring and smart little man in my life, and I love him more than words Happy birthday Boston Wayne!! XOXO

Jessie + Pete ::: Cincinnati Wedding Photographer

I absolutely love couples who think outside of the box! Jessie and Pete have a deep love for history and are Revolutionary War re-enactors, so it was this particular hobby that inspired their entire wedding day . It was one of the most laid-back, loving, and unique weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure of shooting, and I’m so happy they asked me to be a part of it! They decided on a first look, and all throughout our time together during portraits, it was all too apparent how much they love each other (perhaps it was the way neither one of them could wipe the huge smile off of their faces every time they looked at each other ). A few from the day…

Nicole + Elliot ::: Cincinnati Wedding Photographer

First wedding of the year! I was so happy when my friend Amanda from Amanda Donaho Photography asked me to come along and second shoot this wedding with her. What a gorgeous day! Nicole and Elliot chose to get married at Music Hall, and it was my first time shooting there, but I can now vouch that it’s absolutely gorgeous. They were such a sweet couple, so full of love, and so much laughter between them, their friends, and their family. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a more fun reception!

Their first look was one of the sweetest I’ve ever seen.

I wasn’t kidding about Music Hall…look at this place!

Behind the Lens ::: Informational Cards

After I launched my re-brand back in November, I knew that I needed to update EVERYTHING. That meant new collateral and marketing materials, too. It’s so important that all of these things match my branding and still feel like they are saying something for themselves. Coming soon, when a client books with me, I will be sending out a welcome packet (photos and blog on that soon!), and once the wedding has been shot, and I send their disks and gifts (or just their gift if they’ve chosen PASS over a disk), this will come along with it. They are informational items to help clients with their images, how to print them, etc. If you know me, and have worked with me, you know that I encourage questions. I would never want someone left in the unknown, especially a client, so these informational cards are just another way that I try to answer questions before they are even asked. I’ve always done some sort of welcome and informational packets, but it needed to be stepped up a couple notches. I can’t take credit for the idea, there are lots of photographers that do this, but I wanted to put my own spin it. I designed everything that is seen here, so if you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

PASS Photo Galleries For Clients ::: Cincinnati Wedding Photographer

Years ago, when film was the only thing that existed, clients got physical proofs that they had to search through. From those, they might choose a handful to order prints of, spend a few hundred dollars, and that would be all they had to remember their wedding day. With digital photography and technology where it is, giving a bride and groom a DVD of photos has made it much easier for them to have their entire wedding day at hand whenever they want it. That was until PASS came along….and then I died.

PASS is an amazing, online way to share photos without having to wait on a disk! There are so many things I love about PASS, but I want to share a few of those things with you today. You won’t need to know more than this before you fall in love with it, too!

1 // It’s fast and easy. Before, waiting on a custom DVD to come in the mail and then having to turn around and send it to a client would take forever! Now, with PASS, I can upload a gallery and clients can see it immediately. Everything. The whole day. Once a client has their link, they can download immediately!

2 // It’s safe and secure. Clients don’t have to worry about a DVD getting lost, broken, stolen, scratched, or their computer crashing and losing photos because a client’s photos are forever stored on the cloud for instant download, whenever, wherever.

3 // Sharing. Not only do clients get a personal website link to the gallery to email to family and friends, but PASS makes it’s easy to share specific photos to Facebook and Pinterest just by a few simple clicks.

4 // Sharing 2.0. Once a gallery is created, clients get a custom app for their phone or tablet so they can literally share anywhere, AND they have the convenience of always having their photos with them!

5 // Speaking of Pinterest….check out the layout to this gallery. It’s so beautiful and so Pinterest-esque.

6 // The guestbook. After your friends and family view your photos, they can leave you a little note to let you know that they’ve been there!

7 // It’s totally free for wedding clients. It comes with the package a client purchases with me for their wedding day, so it’s not an added cost. I will still be offering DVDs for those who still prefer them (I honestly don’t know why you would though?!), or a USB flash drive for an added cost.

Omgoodness, so much cuteness coming your way right now! Most of you know, I know don’t normally do sessions that aren’t related to weddings, but when one of my best friends, Haley, comes to me with a brand new baby, you know I’m gonna drop what I’m doing to take her picture! Scarlett Jeanne was born this past Saturday, so when I arrived at Haley and Adam’s house on Wednesday completely ready for a snuggle session, she was only a very tiny four days old. I want to be clear when I say I cannot stress enough how flipping cute she is. She was a little fussy at first, but once she had a full belly and got used to my camera, she was the best little model.

Congrats guys. She’s a keeper XOXOXOXO

Behind the Lens ::: A Snow Day ::: Cincinnati Photographer

The snow we got yesterday got me thinking. It was time for another installment of “My Favorite Things” (which I renamed “Behind the Lens”…it just sounds better)…

When I was little, I prayed for snow days. Not because I wanted to skip school, I loved school. I just wanted to be home for a little while. I wanted it to snow so much that it was, in my little 10-year-old head, a massive blizzard where we’d all be stuck inside for days. As much of a social person as I am, I have always loved being at home. As an adult, I still get that same exciting, anxiety when it snows, thinking “Maybe it will snow so much that we’ll be stuck inside for just a little while.” Also, if I have that anxiety as an adult, it could be because I don’t drive very well in the snow (did I mention that every car accident I’ve ever been in involves the snow? Hmm…). Everyone knows I’m an autumn person. I love the leaves, and the crispness the air brings, but, at the same time, there’s nothing like a good snow day. I can see that same thought flash in Ava’s eyes when the flakes start to fall. Yesterday was the first snow day she has had from school, and when we found out the night before, she was so excited to sleep in (“Yay! Mommy, I get to sleep in! Can I stay up late watching a movie?! Can I play on my iPad until midnight?!”). Naturally, she was up at 7 am. The snow didn’t faze Boston, and being cozy and warm in his bed, he did wake up until 9:30. I look forward to the day he has the same look in his eyes that Ava and I both get. I’m sure it won’t be far off (he didn’t wake up until 9:30, but his first words after his little eyes popped open were, “Mommy!! SNOW!!!”). Until then, I still enjoy days where he sleeps in, so I can get photos like this…

Tysha + Ashton ::: Cincinnati Engagement and Wedding Photographer

My first official shoot of the year! Yeah! I met Tysha and Ashton last fall where they booked me for their wedding and I instantly felt like I was in the company of friends. They’ve both been so sweet and Tysha has been a DREAM to work with as we’ve already finished up their wedding invitation design. We headed over to Ault Park on one of the nicest February days I can remember to snap some engagement photos, and they were at such ease in front of my camera that I know their downtown wedding in June is going to be a blast!
